Colt M16 Vietnam War Collection 5.56 NATO 20" Barrel CRXM16E1
The Colt Model XM16E1 was the first attempt at providing an improved M-16 for the US Army. The Colt Model XM16E1 production began in early 1964 and transitioned into the Colt Model M16A1 in early 1967 with over 500000 being produced. It was the first model to incorporate the forward assist feature at the insistence of General Wheeler Army Chief of Staff. This model was also the first to use the Partial Fence lower that allowed the front push pin to be retained within the receiver.
The classic M16E1 was the iconic rifle of the Vietnam War. It was issued to the vast majority of U.S. soldiers during the conflict, and its general success in combat led to its continued service in the U.S. armed forces in varied forms over the years. A virtual match to the classic design, featuring the same unique triangular handguard, 20-inch pencil-profile chrome-lined barrel with a 1:12-inch twist, and recognizable carrying handle.
